New MFE program at Columbia

Hi all,

I just heard that Columbia will start a new Master of Financial Economics this fall. Here is the link; http://www4.gsb.columbia.edu/ms/financialeconomics

The first round has passed and the second will end in April.

Has any of you ever heard of this and how do you view this program?

It's a little bit late and I'm not sure if it's worthy to apply now.

Thank you for any comments.

I think its still worth applying..although, much like other new programs, the majority of students will likely be Columbia undergrads.

I got some useful info from their admissions dept a while back about class profiles, GRE scores, placement, etc:

Our MS applicant pool should be similar to our doctoral applicants. We expect quantitative scores of 90+ percentile and work experience is not required for the MS in Financial Economics.

There is no additional information available for applicants about post-program career opportunities aside from what we have posted on the website. The MS programs are new, so there is no existing track record of hires that we can share with you (unlike longstanding programs such as the MBA, EMBA and PhD programs). We will provide Master of Science students with access to tailored resources of the Career Management Center. They will work closely with our MS students to help them build lifelong career management skills and provide job listing resources appropriate for the degree program profile.
