Nova SBE - MSc in Finance

Hello everyone!

I have been admitted to the Master in Finance at Nova SBE in Portugal for the next year. I haven't found very much about this bschool in WSO so I ask for some help. I would appreciate if someone could tell me if it is well considered as a master in terms of quality of education, networking, opportunities to land an internship at AM/IB/MBB/PE/VC upon finishing in Europe...

As you can tell I am not yet sure in which industry I would like to have a career so any insights of each of the paths that remain open after graduation would be appreciated!

A bit about me: I'm finishing my bachelor in Business this June and at the same time I am studying the CFA Level I. I am European but not Portuguese.

Thank you!

I’m from Spain. Madrid and Barcelona are my target cities after the master’s but I’m open to any other cities in Europe basically haha.

Friend studied the program. Learnt a lot and had a good time. Lot of 2/3-tier Germans, who want to enjoy life in Lisbon. Not many ppl place in London. If you want to place in Spain your first choices are clearly ESADE and IE. HR will know NOVA though. I would choose Carlos3 over Nova to place in Spain, but if you hustle anything is possible.

I know that it is a no brainer to choose ESADE and IE as first option, but they are out of my reach (no possibility of scholarship). I know that Carlos III is well positioned in undergrad but not sure in grad.

I think Nova + networking + CFAI + WSO IB prep guide + IB by Rosenbaum is a good start for getting a SA in 2021.

Would you change/complete something?

If you want to study in Madrid and break in IB/PE

For a bsc - Pontificia - Cunef - IE

For a msc - IE - Cunef (would not choose it though)

Rest of universities from the area are usually not even considered for the screening unless you network hard

Nova at least is well-know and will open you doors to get interviews without having to grind it that hard

Nova is a feeder in London IB, not many people but a very solid university, you will have a good network you can get help from and getting interviews should not be a problem.

True that ESADE or IE can be better options, but in London BBs dont know about that university at all (maybe local target/target of some specific boutiques?), be careful with those statements at least for London.

I think you can have solid opportunities to land a SA if you are technically sound, so make sure you emphasize that early on.
