One more tour?

I Recently completed my 2rd year in the military. 1 of it was in flight school. I never completed the program and had 5 months following in supply corps school. I'm currently stationed overseas in Japan as a disbursing (financial management) officer as well as a sales officer which is in charge of all the ships services such as store, bulk store room and it's inventory, barbershop, and laundry. I'm managing a 25 man division in my first tour. We are also going to be deployed out to sea a lot the next few years.

By the end of my tour I will be near the end of my obligated service. I'm not sure if, because of my flight school hiccup, this will be enough service time to make a convincing MBA application to at least a top 25 program. I'm debating trying to extend a year by doing an admiral aide tour, but am not sure I Wana do a 2 to 3 year shore tour waiting to do my MBA especially since I'm currently working on the GMAT. I think having a flag aide tour could add a boost to an application, but if not selected I'm not sure doing some shore duty task will really add a of value and puts me closer to an expiring GMAT and an above 30 year old MBA application. If anyone has any military insight on if this might be enough I would greatly appreciate the input.

MBAs are not going to know how to interpret the flight school thing, so it is up to you to do that for them. There is a way to make it not sound bad. Not everyone is meant to be a pilot and it wasn't for you, end of story. Maybe you got there and it wasn't what you hoped. Maybe you say you failed out but learned X, Y, and Z because of it.

If you're just delaying the inevitable by taking a shore duty, don't. If you're getting a benefit like 100% GI Bill by adding a couple of years, then maybe. MBAs are not going to care that you were on an Admirals staff either. Recommendations that convey personal relationships and impact are what you need, not a title. An aide job is not going to make or break your application. Why anyone would ever be flag aide is beyond me, but to each his own.

I guess my bigger concern is if admissions will overlook me because I have less deployment time than some of the other people applying. You are probably right though. Gonna get this GMAT done and see where it leaves me.
