Ottawa to Manhattan: Canada-US B-school transition
Hi all,
I'm an undergraduate student (just finished 2nd year) at a non-target Canadian business school. Although I do not attend a household name in Canadian b-schools, I have a 3.9 GPA (4.0 in my second year) majoring in Finance and Operations Management, and am interested in pursuing an i-banking career in the US. I am aware of the dominance of HYP and other target schools in all such hirings, and although I plan to apply to as many internships stateside as possible for my junior and senior year summers, I'm working under the assumption that my best bet is to pursue a graduate education (JD/MBA preferrably) in the US first. I was wondering if anybody could provide any suggestions as to what might benefit my CV the most in order to attend a top-tier business school, such as HYP or W?, other than of course killer GMATs and LSATs? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks.
If you can't get IBD out of undergrad you probably won't make it to a top MBA school, unless there is something very cool about you (enterpreneurship, NGO, etc)
Princeton doesn't have a business school, you can add Stanford up there.
Just to clarify, I'm not at all worried about my prospects in Canada. I've already done a summer internship at a Canadian financial services company (after my freshman year) and am actively running two businesses while in school. My real question is how fairly would American MBA schools likely evaluate my performance? Thanks.
If you're already running 2 business... why do you even bother with banking?? the prestige?? the money?? Just get your two business off the ground (10mm+ annual revenue) and you're in at any bschool.
