Oxbridge African Studies vs LBS/LSE/Imperial MiM vs Brown PRIME: which would you pick?
UK citizen, non-target uni, on track for a First. Doing a placement year in 2027–28 and co-founding a fintech start-up in African capital markets.
Plan: 3–4 years in London (consulting/banking/AM) → 2–3 years in Dubai/Riyadh → back to Nigeria by 29. Masters is purely for brand and recruiting.
Options:
- Oxford/Cambridge African Studies: Oxbridge brand, fits my Africa angle, but not a business degree
- LBS / LSE / Imperial MiM
- Brown PRIME: 3 years of US OPT, but no real pipeline
Questions:
1. Does Oxbridge + African Studies compete with an LBS/LSE MiM for London MBB/IB, or does the subject hurt?
2. Is deferring a return offer for a one-year masters normal?
3. Which travels best to the Gulf later?
What would you pick in my shoes?
I would select the LBS (or LSE) Master's in Management, as it provides the most direct and reliable mechanism to convert a non-target undergraduate degree into a London IB or MBB role, while still delivering elite international branding for your subsequent moves to the Gulf and Nigeria.
