Oxford MBA worth it for IB or PE?

I have a masters from imperial, several internships in PE and currently working in a Big 4 doing M&A. Thinking of applying for the Oxford MBA but wondering what’s the career opportunities like specifically for IB and PE in London as that is my main career goal. Or should I apply for the post-experience MFin at Cambridge instead? Also considering the MFE at Oxford.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Oxford MBA for IB/PE:

    • The Oxford MBA is a strong program, but for IB and PE in London, it might not be the most direct or optimal route. While it has a reputable brand, MBAs in Europe, including Oxford, are generally not as targeted for IB/PE as pre-experience programs like the Oxford MFE or Cambridge MFin.
    • For PE, post-MBA roles are fiercely competitive, and most successful candidates have prior PE or IB experience. Your Big 4 M&A background and PE internships are helpful, but breaking into PE post-MBA without significant pre-MBA PE experience can be challenging.
  2. Cambridge MFin:

    • The Cambridge MFin is a post-experience program and is well-regarded for finance careers, including IB. It offers a solid curriculum and strong career prospects, particularly for those with prior work experience in finance. It could be a better fit if you're looking for a program that aligns with your career goals in IB/PE.
  3. Oxford MFE:

    • The Oxford MFE is highly regarded and often considered one of the best programs for breaking into IB and PE in London. It has a strong focus on finance and excellent placement records in top-tier IB and PE firms. If you meet the requirements and are willing to pursue a more technical and finance-focused program, the MFE might be the best option for your goals.
