Possible to recruit for Chi out of Penn vs NU uchicago ND etc?

I have family in Chicago and lived there for 2 years growing up. Was wondering if it is worth recruiting for Chicago banks as a rising soph out of Penn.

Seems like close to zero people from Penn go to chicago as NYC / west coast tends to dominate.

Thoughts?

Recruiting for Chicago banks out of Penn is definitely possible, but it may require more effort compared to schools like Northwestern, UChicago, or Notre Dame, which have stronger regional alumni networks in Chicago. Based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Alumni Network: Schools like Northwestern, UChicago, and Notre Dame have a more established presence in Chicago finance, which can make networking and securing interviews easier. However, Penn's strong overall reputation and alumni network in finance can still open doors, even in Chicago.

  2. Networking: Since Penn students typically target NYC or West Coast opportunities, you may need to proactively network with Chicago-based bankers. Start reaching out to alumni or professionals at firms like Baird, Lincoln, William Blair, and Piper Sandler, which are prominent in the Chicago market.

  3. Effort and Timing: As a rising sophomore, now is a great time to begin networking. Many bankers suggest starting early to build relationships, especially if you're targeting a less common region for your school. Be persistent and clear about your interest in Chicago.

  4. Feasibility: While fewer Penn students may end up in Chicago, it’s not a limitation if you have strong credentials and make the effort to connect with the right people. Chicago banks are open to talent from top schools nationwide, and your family ties to the city could be a good talking point during networking.

In summary, while it might be less common for Penn students to recruit for Chicago, it’s absolutely doable with focused networking and a clear strategy.
