I thought it sounded crazy reading it, but then I re-read it and got two points:
1) I don't think he's a native english speaker. Look closely at the grammar and you'll recognize tell-tale signs that come from one geographic region in particular.
2) Once we know that, it's not hard to figure out that by "meet friends", he means that what he really means is "I want to expand my network".
Phrase it that way and it doesn't quite as ridiculous, since the MBA degree is one that you usually get for recognition, brand name, and (maybe, depending on your career field) on-campus recruiting opportunities rather than the curriculum.

That is a pretty terrible idea. There are a lot of good ways to spend money and time and this is not one of them
