Shameful Behaviour from the UK University
Came across this "Finance and Investment Banking Bsc" course by the University of Greenwich (https://www.gre.ac.uk/undergraduate-courses/busin…)
How long has this been around for? Truly shameless behaviour to sneak in Investment Banking into the title knowing full well they've placed very few, if any, into anywhere remotely near IB.
Makes me feel bad for people who might be coming in from abroad, who might not understand it entirely and end up on this course. And yes, we can say they should be doing research beforehand on universities & courses especially with the amount of money being spent, but it is still sad to see a scummy tactic like this.
Translating this for confused U.S monkeys
A course essentially equals a major/degree
Not a singular class
Why bother with clueless Americans who assume the world was created for them?
Is it not?
Joking if not obvious
As a confused U.S. Monkey, I appreciated the added color... colour??
Not sure why the monkey shit. You helped me understand
.
I agree with you that people should at the very least know about target/semi/non-targets if they want to go into IB
But, it doesn't dismiss that it is very distasteful to name it that. It's definitely possible that it can take advantage of some people because of the buzz word.
It is just a simple finance degree from the course overview, no focus on ib, and only saw 1 alumni in ib on linkedin as a off-cycle intern - which further attests to the fact it lands hardly anyone in IB as is.
I still think they deserve to be scammed
Rule of thumb, any University that offers a course like that or 'Investment Management and Risk' or similarly worded courses is nearly never a target, let alone a semi-target
What about LSE Finance & Private Equity?
Current LSE MFPE student here
Yeah the course gives you no edge on PE recruiting (besides the theoretical knowledge, which of course you can learn on your own). It is just the MSc Finance programme with a mandatory PE module
However, I had no trouble getting interviews from PEs (including a couple MF PEs) and BB/EBs
There was one time tho, when I had an AC for Private Credit, and they were really tough on why I wanted Credit even though my degree said PE
.
I disagree
Anyone who falls for that 100% deserves it.
Ultimately, ethics don't matter – milking potential students of money is a legitimate potential goal of the institution
At the end of the day, universities need money to survive. A lot of universities were struggling financially, leading to these 'niche' courses. Not saying I agree at all, but choosing your university should be a researched decision, and not pressure from regulatory bodies/govt on supposed 'unemployment degrees' means it won't stop unfortunately.
having a bachelors in investment banking sounds so sad ngl
you must have to tell the university regarding this they will definitely help you.
Fuck the UK. 1776 baby! Do like prince William and take a course in getting pegged up the butt.
