Should I tell my family ?
So I’m a non traditional mba candidate (hopefully). I decided to not tell my family/ friends that I’m applying to school . It started that way in case I don’t get in (I’m concerned on saying I’m doing it and not following through) and to protect my job that’s in real estate sales. Now I’m wondering if I should share though since I might get in. I’ve been invited to interview at 3 schools so far for r2. I’m not sure if they’ll be supportive. Probably. Any thoughts?
1) Interview does not mean you are accepted. 2) You can never say that you "might" get in. There's a saying "always expect the worst outcome". Do not hype yourself up thinking you will get in. It's good to be confident, but not when there's a chance of rejection. 3) Tell your family and friends, but not your work. For me, family has always been a crucial part of my decisions and their support has greatly helped me. Work - it really depends on the personality of your co-workers and your manager. If you tell your manager, regardless of your acceptance/rejection, he will already be thinking of a replacement. So be vary of this. Manager at the end of the day supports the goal of the firm, not your personal goal.
Also, no one judges you if you get rejected/fail. If they do, well at least you TRIED.
Yeah, that makes sense. I guess the more time my family knows the better.
don't tell anybody until you have all the facts...admission + financial aid package.
until then, there is nothing to talk about...and will only add stress to your life.
Wtf, are you saying that you have a family (i.e., wife and kids) and you haven't told them that you might be leaving your job and moving potentially across the country? That sounds like it could only end poorly. Tell your family!
I told my work as well, and they were very supportive. Two of my bosses even had connections (immediate boss's wife worked for one of the schools, another was an alum who had a very important connection to the school) and put in a good word through backchannels. I would not have known if I hadn't been open about it with them.
