Summer job in unrelated field or....?
Hey everyone,
Coles notes on me: MBA student in Canada, gunning for IBD, ER or S&T in Calgary.
No luck in getting a summer internship in these fields in Calgary or Toronto for the summer through hiring cycle, or through networking (as of yet.) I've gotten a few offers with Oil companies in Calgary for the summer doing project finance type things, more related to accounting than anything else.
Should I take the offer which would be in a altogether different area than I want, or is it better to not take it and try to network HAM for upcoming full time recruiting, and register for CFA?
Thanks
Also interested but for younger undergrad
Take the offer and spin it into your story.
As background, I had a summer job at a federal regulatory agency last year when I couldn't get IBD. I spun this into my story (boardroom experience, bouncing ideas off third-parties, making research reports, etc.) and said it really caused me to consider i-banking as a job. Result this summer: IB summer analyst; having a job is better than no job.
Thats a good point...as long as the experience is somewhat relevant, I suppose there is a way to always spin it.
take the offer and realize that the harsh reality is that not everyone who wants IB gets IB - the Canadian market is tough.
Very true. Its a tough market, and yes its not always possible to end up getting IB. Always worth trying with full effort though....But I am aware it may just not be possible.
Thanks for the reply
