Top-5 school MPP or top-20 school MBA?
Hi, I'm a 28 year old young professional from Latin America, looking for an international experience studying in the US. After finishing my studies, my goal is to work in public finance and international trade, preferrably at an international organization or food & agriculture related company/fund. So far my experience has only been in the public sector, working in these two areas for local and federal government for more than 8 years.
I've been admitted to both U of Chicago's MPP program and Georgetown's MBA program. What do you think about the pros and cons of each university and program? (If I had the chance, of course I would pursue the MBA/MPP double degree, but my budget doesn't hold for more than three years of study).
Thanks!
What do you want to do post-grad school? The course of study is pretty different.
Yeah. At my school our MPP kids wound up working for state and federal governments while our MFins wound up working in finance.
I feel like you're about to shell out $180,000 for a degree that doesn't have a compelling case for getting you from Point A to Point B, where Point B isn't totally certain or well known.
Given the whole Coronavirus situation, I'd stay in LatAm.
Make the case for the MBA given your career aspirations and current trajectory. Because it seems you're an ideal MPP candidate (though in your case I'd want to ensure the school's post MPP salary stats justify the cost).
Decent amount of people from top MPA /MPP schools make it to McKinsey as an Associate. Just do a simple LinkedIn search and you'll see.
Go to Chicago! Seems much better choice based on what you want.
