Transferring Decision. Advice Appreciated
Okay so I am currently a freshman at Villanova and got a 3.67 my first semester. I did a special program and am studying abroad this semester and also landed an internship at Barclays PLC in their group finance division for 6 weeks. So I feel like I am a little ahead of the curve. Before studying abroad I decided that I would fill out an app. for UVA and see what happens. My ultimate goal is IB so I thought it couldn't hurt. My situation now deals with if I get into UVA, which I think should happen beause I was waitlisted the first time applied and I have connection this time around.
Here is what I am struggling with
I am in state for UVA and am paying full tuition at Nova. So thats probably a 30,000 dollar a year difference. I could put all that money to grad school.
Dont know how much the difference is between nova and UVA for IB. I know Nova is a non target but are my chances significantly worse coming from nova? It was ranked 7th in the nation this year for bus. week.
Transferring is definitely hard socially and I have everything invested at nova thus far.
Based on this info. what are your opinions. Any and all advice is appreciated.
Rankings are different than the reality when it comes to recruiting.
Nova is a great program (I'm from PA), you can ask anyone about their placement and it isn't bad, but for FO banking it's a bit of a dead-end. Accounting is far more popular there. You can talk to ANT if you want to know more about their graduate programs, MSF etc., but undergrad isn't on par with your options at UVA.
First, get in. Then let's talk. After that though, there is absolutely no reason for you to stay. If you get into McIntire, your recruiting will be roughly on the level of schools like Stern, Ross, Haas, and Duke. If you're at UVA general, not so much.
Recruiting opportunities + in-state tuition + better college atmosphere = why not.
I don't know anything about nova but i can shed some light on UVa. My girlfriend goes there, I'm from the area, and I've crashed the recruiting events there. Pretty much every single BB has OCR there and a ton of middle market firms recruit there as well. Also, you may want to make sure you can get into the comm school (McIntire school of commerce) as a transfer, it's the most competitive program at the school and getting in as a transfer is next to impossible.
