UC Berkley Extension Certificate
Hello guys,
I'm thinking about boosting my B-school application and wondering what you guys think about UC Berkeley's certificate program in finance.
Do you guys think these classes will add value to my B-school application assuming I do very well in them? Just graduated from non-target UC.
Cumulative GPA: 3.2 (switched chem eng to business)
Major GPA: 3.86, very strong upward trend

Thanks
I'm looking to do the same thing -- I'd like to take a few classes to show improvement/ability, but I work full-time and would likely be unable to attend live classes without missing about 50% of them. I've heard a few good things about BYU's online offerings too.
Any of you WSOers have any input? I would love to hear some positive stories in re adcoms' feelings towards extension/online/CC classes.
Hi Holla-back,
The big issue for you is not whether the classes are online or extension -- that's fine, but whether they are for credit. The attached document, which is available online by searching "UC Berkeley MBA pre-requisite" shows which schools are acceptable by the Haas part-time program, which gives you some sense of what a top-ranked program cares about. (OK it's not HBS, but you won't find that online anywhere). I personally got into HBS by taking classes in statistics and such at UVA when I was living in DC.
Another option is the Tuck Online Business Bridge Program, which isn't for credit, but part of, you guessed it, Tuck.
Best to you, Betsy
Holla_back,
thanks for the input on BYU online classes.
Anyone else have advice about extensions to boost B-school app?
Looks like people are also saying good things about UCLA's Extension School online classes. Do a search, there're a few threads here about them. I'm leaning towards UCLA right now.
You think there is a good strategy for picking a certificate?

Looks like the total cost is about $5,500 to complete this program. Besides a B-school app, is there any advantage to getting a certificate in finance from UC Berkeley Extension. Is it looked down upon like Harvard extension?
I only plan to take a couple quant-ish classes to create an alternative transcript of sorts; I doubt the actual certificate has any real merit.
It looks like some of the classes count as real undergraduate credits though.
Just curious, what classes do you have in mind?
Also what was your undergrad major?
Ha, I'm an out of practice engineer.
Wherever I end up (UCLA, Berkeley, wherever), I'll take some accounting, statistics, and maybe finance classes.
alright, thanks for your input and good luck.
I am going to do more research, if you find anything else good please share
