Which Groups to Target - MBA Associate (REIB+)

Seeking insight into REIB teams (BB/EB) and advice on whether to stick with real estate or potentially explore other groups.

I'll be attending CBS in the fall and am planning to pivot into IB. My background is in CRE (associate in investment sales), so my narrative is the strongest for a REIB/REGAL team, but not opposed to pivoting either.

I've had a half dozen conversations with current associates during the MBA application process, so I've gotten some feedback on on a few real estate teams and will detail a couple below.

My notes so far:

GS (REGAL) - golden standard for brand and mentoring opportunities. MF exit ops

JP (REIB) - medium-sized team so associates are involved in most deals and not over specialized. Team gets along well and the positive culture makes the hours a bit easier

Jeffries - several people flat out said to avoid

  • I'd appreciate any insight on REIB teams across the BB/EB banks in terms of culture, typical transactions and client-types, and exit ops.
  • Is it dumb to even entertain making a hard pivot and recruiting for another group (TMT, FIG) given the strong narrative for a RE team?
