Will Coronavirus Pass/Fail Classes Affect B-School Admission?

Hi All,

I am currently a junior pursuing my undergrad degree with hopes of attending a top B-School for my MBA. Because of the coronavirus, all of my classes have been moved online. My university has given me the option to take all of my classes as pass/fail due to the unforeseen circumstances. I am a little worried about my grades dropping in some classes that are already difficult enough in-person, so I am looking at taking one of my major classes as Pass/Fail.

Will MBA admissions view a pass/fail class on my transcript negatively? Or no because this semester is a one-off situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Listen here boss. I doubt one pass/fail class is going to make anyone look twice. That being said I think it’s even more understandable given the current situation.

what did you end up deciding? because I'm in the exact same situation right now (applying for deferred MBA next January 2022). I have a W for a class on my transcript from Junior Year Fall Semester (a class I am taking next semester and am likely getting an A in. It appears as a W on my transcript due to very dumb reasons regarding class registration logistics on my university's website). I am considering using a Pass on 2 classes this semester (1 for a C+, another for B), but I'm hesitant because these are both core classes of my finance major, Corporate Finance and Investment Analysis respectively. I'm currently at a 3.8 at a non-target and was hoping to graduate with Summa Cum Laude, however if I don't use a Pass, my GPA would drop to the 3.75 range (impossible to make Summer Cum Laude if it drops to that). My options are:

1. Don't use Pass/Fail, leave 1 W on my transcript from Junior Fall = 3.747

2. Use Pass on 1 C+ (1 W for Junior Fall, 1 Pass for Junior Spring) = 3.778

3. Use Pass on 1 C+ & B (1 W for Junior Fall, 2 Pass for Junior Spring) = 3.798
