Breaking into Energy Trading

I am target school Politics and Philosophy student who is really interested in energy trading at trading shop or oil major. Does one need to be STEM major or is it more of a job where if one is interested enough he can be taught on job and succeed in it. Also can physical commodity trader in energy jump into hedge fund trading derivatives if he had exposure to them ? What would be best advice to maximize my chances?
