CISI Exam importance for Sales in S&T
I've just joined as a graduate as a sales person in S&T. For the specific product I sell they don't require CISI exams but for other salesmen in my bank they do.
I'm wondering if it's the standard in the UK for banks to want CISI exams and should I still do them on the side in case I change career slightly into different sales teams.
I mean unless you pass them you're basically not regulated to sell or advise on most financial products. Most people in front office need to do them. That said no one is going to not hire you for not having them. You'll just need to study and pass them in whatever timeline they set, which isn't always a favourable amount of time. So it's really up to you.
I'm assuming you're in commodities or something if not doing them.
I do Prime Brokerage Sales and since we're a fee based business and the trades we do have set pricing we don't give actual investment advise. But It's pretty common (at least in my bank) for PB Sales and Macro Sales to move to each other. If I wanted to move into FX Sales or something would it be worth doing CISI exams on the side slowly and out of pocket or will banks just give me a month window or something instead?
Dude it takes like a couple weeks to do these exams. I think you think they're a bigger deal than they are
