Early days on the trade desk

So I started on a FI S&T desk about 10 months ago and feel like I'm spinning my wheels now and curious if this is normal or if I need to start looking at new things.

Like I said, I started 10 months ago. In the beginning, doing all the crappy work while I was studying to get my licenses. I passed them all on the first try and was ready to get fully started.

it has been almost 8 months since that time and I'm not really in any different of a position. Most of the desk works from home so there isn't as much face to face interaction. If I ask for help, usually opened on IB and no response. And when I am told to do something, it's always to hedge/unhedge positions we have. Along that, still doing all the mundane stuff a junior on the desk does (grabbing lunch, etc...)

I have been trying to reach out to accounts to build my own book and, while that has been an extreme struggle, have found a few that always respond on bloomberg and are willing to trade with me. But I do not have much color from them and don't want to bombard them with items they have no interest in and ruin a relationship early on.

All this ranting aside, the question I wanted to address was if this is similar to anyone else's start to their desk. How long was it before you were trading with others and generating some revenue for your desk? Because, for me, it feels like I have hit a brick wall and really don't know what the next step is and feel like I'm supposed to just figure it out.

Feel free to ask me anything if you want more clarification. Just been struggling a lot recently because I knew the base pay was absolutely terrible coming in, but was told on multiple occasions I would be making enough to afford both rent and groceries by now.
