Exit Opps from Product Management Role within S&T at BB
Hey WSO,
I’ve been working as a Product Manager for a suite of trading platforms at a BB for the past two years. My role involves managing the development and enhancement of these platforms, making sure they align with the needs of our traders and clients, and staying on top of market trends and tech advancements. If everything goes well, I'm on track to be promoted to Associate next year.
As I think about my long-term career moves, I’m curious about the exit opportunities from this role. Specifically, I’m looking for insights on:
Private Equity/Venture Capital: How doable is it to jump into PE or VC from a product management role in S&T? What skills/experience from my current role would be most valued?
Fintech Startups: With my background in trading platforms, what roles in fintech would be a good fit? How can I leverage my current experience to break into this space?
Corporate Strategy/Development: How can I transition to a corporate strategy or business development role within major financial services firms or other industries? What steps should I take to make this move?
Sales Role within Markets: How realistic is it to move into a sales role within markets from my current position? What additional skills or knowledge would I need, and how should I prepare?
Other Exit Opportunities: Any other career paths I should consider that could benefit from my experience in product management within S&T?
Any advice, personal experiences, or insights from those who’ve made similar transitions or know about these fields would be super helpful.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Is this a 'front office' product role (under s&t management)? Assuming it is, I've seen people from product roles move to trading and to hedge fund business development. Move to trading is the most common since product usually face off to trading management and you can easily build relationships with them to eventually make a move.
