For Kicks & Giggles

For those of you that know me (and many that don't), I was a scheduler for an oil and gas company here in Houston for some time. I recently took a little hiatus and quit in Oct to pursue real estate full-time. I received an interview notification on Monday -- so I went to the interview on Wednesday (today). I figured I'd go to the interview for practice (practice makes perfect) -- this was the easiest interview I've ever had -- my interview at Target when I was 16 was harder than this shit.

Asked me about my past, basic excel questions...I nearly cracked up while answering him. Joe blow guy thought he had me in a rut -- asking me the most mind numbing questions...at the end of the interview he says "So I've asked you a lot of questions...now it's your turn to ask me questions.." and I'm like what the f*ck..is this real? holy crap this guy is just begging for me to drop the bomb.

I asked him a few trivial questions about how the company makes the most cash on cash return and how they streamline processes...and then it got PERSONAL. "When did you start working here?" "What did you start out doing when you started?" "What did you major in?" The guy practically bent over for me..and then I asked "WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?" at which point he responded "This interview is about you buddy, not me" and I smiled and said "Hey, you said ask questions...so I'm running the show and asking questions."

What's the moral of the story? Don't waste your time interviewing for some bullshit analyst position when you know you're overqualified for it,but when you do... make it an adventurous trip worth having...at least now I have a talking point during happy hour.
