How do you figure out the strengths of specific desks at a BB?

League tables I've seen only display broad generalizations (equities vs bonds). I'll be joining as a S&T summer analyst at a BB that has its strengths in FI moreso than equities, but I'm personally more interested in equities at the moment so I'm curious about whether it is still a good idea to join equities at this bank.

In addition, is there a tactful way to ask about how well a desk is doing during networking?

Coalition Tables show relative BB rankings, so you can get an idea of flow and marketshare. Additionally, check bank's earning reports or public statements- they occasionally comment on the performance of specific desks and asset classes.

unless you've actually traded a product and become intensely invested...there is a good chance that you have no idea what you like or would be good at. i would recommend getting exposure to FICC and see if it really is not for you before writing it off.

just google it...you're welcome
