Transfer to trading

Hi guys - long time lurker, first time poster. Would appreciate some advise.

I'm a 1st year quant analyst in the Analytics group of a BB investment bank, and have an undergrad degree in math and cs. I didn't really know what trading was when I went through recruiting back in college, but have come to learn a lot about it over the last 1year. I enjoy Analytics (it's a nice combination of finance, math, and cs), but I can't help but think about a possible move to a quantitative product desk over as a trader/strats guy (like FX, rates, vol, structured products desks).

Have people on this board seen anyone make the move from Analytics to S&T, and, if so, how common is it? How would you advise I approach this - try to do this internally, or go through a headhunter? What's the timeline for these kind of transfers; my friends in IBD seem to be accepting 2year futures on PE jobs (for loss of a better description)...is S&T recruiting similar?

ps: sorry for the pretentious username. tried changing it, but it seems like usernames are permanent.
