Verbal Commitment Through Networking Call?
I am in the recruitment process for a 2023 S&T SA position. A group at one of the companies came to my college for a recruitment event. I attended and got to know them very well and even had networking calls with them after. I was on a catch-up call with one of the Analysts that works at the company and he told me that I am their top contender on campus and told me if I can wait for their recruitment cycle, the position will be waiting for me. In hindsight, I should’ve asked how certain he was that I would get the position. How can he say that without even having interviewed? Can someone consider this scenario and tell me the likelihood of my acceptance based on that?
Thanks,
Lol...you shouldn't rely on any promises made verbally, especially not from the bottom of the totem pole.
Why would he say that to begin with? Our relationship has developed over the months and his tone was quite convincing. He even reached out to me first to say that.
Do not rely on that, as you noted they haven’t even interviewed you yet. If you bomb the interview you think they’ll give you the offer? If a senior person doesn’t like you, do you think you’ll get the offer? If someone else comes in and crushes the interview… You get the point. Offers aren’t given off of 1 hr networking events.
