What is the most common pathway to becoming a Power Trader

I was interested to hear some of the routes traders have taken to be in the spot they are today. Are there specific majors/courses that traders usually have? What sort of internships are you usually targeting? How important is your knowledge of promgramming languages?

Currently a second year university student at a Non-Target in the UK studying Finance. Looking to break into Commodity Trading, Power Trading or Equity Research. All advice is appreciated!
