How to Write an Investment Memo

Hey Ive been trying to write an Investment Memo but I don't know how to start it. Ive tried looking at bvg but I havent been able to figure out how I should format the Memo, and whatnot. What is the standard practice? Font, Size of Font, and all the other stuff.

Don't worry about format, don't worry about font, don't worry about any of that. Consume as much information as you can about a company - for a venture company, this should literally be 100% of all of the publicly available information out there. Hit up customers on LinkedIn or go on Blind or other tech forums and talk to them about their use of the product. Talk to current employees. Write down word-for-word notes of those conversations. Write down all the interesting information you hear on podcasts, all the information you read online. Then start taking notes on the interesting points, in your own words, on a separate document. Then start to write a story. How did the company get started? What problem were they trying to solve? Did they raise money and if so how did that go? What are they up to these days? What do people think of their product?

It's just a story. Tell the story. And then add your own thoughts - do you like the story? Or do you think the story is about to be at an end? Would you give them money? Why or why not?

Don't worry about anything else. Once you've told the story you can worry about formatting it into sections or what font to use.

Good luck!
