Veteran with prior IB / PE experience. Should I do an MBA for VC?
I did the IB / Tech PE path (2+2) before joining the military. My family has a decorated military background so serving had always been my calling. I'm about 1 year from the end of my active duty and trying to decide what should I do for my next step. I'm interested in VC in the short-run and then go work at a startup / or pursuing entrepreneurship after.
With that context, should I even pursue an MBA, assuming that I can get into H/S/W? I went to a state school for undergrad, so feel like my brand / network has not been as helpful as my peers from IB / PE. I'll also be ~32yo by the time I matriculate, so that could also be a disadvantage to network with younger classmates there.
Appreciate any tips / advice here
I'm assuming you went through OCS? What branch? Was serving worth it to you? The opportunity cost in $$$ must have been around $1M or so right?
I went through OCS for Navy / AF (want maintain some anonymity). It was worth it for me. I definitely weighted that decision a lot but ultimately I knew I would regret not serving more than missing out some earnings (yes the opportunity costs were ~$mm)
Gotcha - this is something I struggle with, and my opportunity cost isn’t nearly as much as yours
Bump!
How were you in good enough shape to get thru basic after a good ol high finance 2+2?
