2025 Internship-Am I too late?

Hello, I am a finance student from a Non Target university in California. I was originally recruiting for IB but I realized after some reflection, I really would want to go into Wealth Management or Private Banking instead. I am a transfer student and very worried about my timeline as I have 2 years left of school and have no summer 2025 internship for WM. I am currently a winter intern at a small PE firm which is unpaid. I dream is to become a financial advisor or work in wealth management in some capacity as it better aligns with my skills and personality.

Am I too late for 2025 internships in WM or will January have some openings? I am very bummed about not getting anything for fall recruitment but I want to lock in this quarter. Also, when do 2026 wealth management internships typically open?

Thank you!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, you're not too late for 2025 Wealth Management (WM) internships. While many top firms may have completed their fall recruitment, January often brings new openings as firms reassess their needs or launch additional hiring cycles. Keep an eye on company websites, job boards, and networking opportunities to catch these openings. Additionally, continue leveraging your current PE internship to build relevant skills and connections.

For 2026 Wealth Management internships, recruitment typically begins in the summer or early fall of 2025. To stay ahead, start preparing your resume, networking with professionals in the field, and attending relevant events or bootcamps. This proactive approach will position you well for future opportunities.

So the short answer is yes. The long answer is not really/it depends.

Larger BBs with WM/PWM arms are done hiring for formal summer analyst classes, however even within large BBs (MS, ML, UBS, WF), one can still land an internship with a one-off team in a branch office between February - March. Hiring at these firms, at the local level, takes 2-3 months from start to finish (assuming multiple rounds and background checks).

Reach out to individual FAs or FA teams at firms you have an interest in and determine their need for the upcoming summer.
