PWM for IB

hello, I'm going into my second year at a UK semi-target. During my first year I've gained one Spring Week and a few society positions but that is about it so I don't feel confident applying for summer internships this year. My course offers me the opportunity to do a placement year in the middle of my degree. GS offers a placement year within the PWM division and UBS in Asset Management (people from my uni have had considerable success getting onto these placements in the past). Say I was to be successful in gaining one of these internships would I then be able to leverage that to get into IBD - doing a Summer internship at the end of the Placement Year probably not at the same bank though. My thinking is that a year of work experience at Goldman would look brilliant on the cv and if they ask why I'm going for such a drastic change of division I could say that I enjoyed aspects of the role more which are similar to IB and as I'd be going back to Uni after my placement year I still wouldn't have had to commit to a specific division and if I do a masters I could have another shot at a summer internship anyway.

So this would be my path if in the unlikely scenario all goes to plan:

Year 1. Undergrad Semi-Target - One Spring Week

Year 2: Spring Week in IBD (Hopefully able to convert to summer internship following summer)

Year 3: Placement Year - Investment Management BB - SA position IBD at end of year

Year 4: Back to Uni for Final Year

(and if needed or unsuccessful with SA positions then a masters and hopefully success between UG and PG)

Any Insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
