PWM internship help/advice

Hey guys, looking for some advice.

I'm currently a freshman business major at a target on the east coast, but I really want to do an internship on the west coast this summer (yes, I have visited before, no I don't have some ridiculous Hollywood dream). Since I'm a freshman, I've basically been told to either wait until my junior year or try for PWM. Here's the thing though- as we all know, the west coast is expensive. My question is are most PWM (or other Asset Management) internships with banks paid? Also, is it logistically and financially feasible to do an internship out there for a summer? I'm not trying to stockpile cash from an internship; I really just want to learn about an industry, breakeven, and experience a part of the country I haven't lived in.

Any advice?
Thanks in advance
