Regional Boutique or PWM

I am attending a non target university and wanted to ask your opinions on what internship to strive for following my freshman year. I have plans to reach out to various regional boutiques but I also have a pretty good connection at Jefferies group. If I have the choice between a regional boutique SA position or something non IB related at Jefferies, which one do you guys recommend I take for summer of freshman year. Thank you

You should definitely reach out to both because there’s no guarantee you’ll get an offer, but I think it honestly depends on what you’re interested in pursuing after graduation. If you’re looking to do IB, it would be pretty impressive to have experience after your freshman year, even if it’s at a regional boutique. I’d recommend pursuing the opportunity that would allow you to learn the most!

For freshman year summer I'd go for the brand name (in a non-banking role) vs. a tiny no-name boutique. Especially coming from a non-target you will benefit from having a recognizable/non-regional firm on your resume. This will help you land a better sophomore year internship (potentially at a more reputable boutique/MM) that will then position you for an EB/BB internship junior year.
