1st year Analyst - Advice/Help
I've been an analyst for almost a year working for a multi-family group with a large national portfolio. I'm on a regional team (office in NY) that's responsible for sourcing 3rd party property management business. Our team did not close any deals in 2017 which led to no bonus pay out. I'm earning a salary of less than $55k before taxes and essentially living paycheck to paycheck. I live in the city and my portion of the rent is close to $1500 with utilities (roughly half of my monthly take home).
Am I pigeon holing myself into limited exit opportunities by weathering the storm/sticking around longer?
What might be the best roles/positions that I should be targeting in the application process? Interested in acquisitions, development, and the lending side of the industry. I had success getting my resume in front of REF IB teams at some of the bigger shops, but did not get any further due to lack of relevant experience.
I am concerned about being competitive in the interview process with one year of experience in a hybrid operational/asset management/deal sourcing role and not having any wins to show for it.
My main priority is being in a role that I can learn a lot and build a successful career. My fear is having to move back to my hometown outside of Los Angeles and kinda restart. Reminder I am living paycheck to paycheck and know this isn't sustainable in the long run.
Any/all comments, suggestions, thoughts, questions are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks in advance!
