5 Interviews, 4 months, 3 Groups, and a partridge in a pear tree. What's going on here?

What's up WSO,

I began interviewing on campus for a full time role in NYC after graduation this spring. My first interaction was at an info session where I had a chance to sit down with someone from HR. My first official interview was in November and I immediately hit it off with the interviewers. I was thrilled as this is my only real IB prospect.

This led to multiple conversations via text and phone call, and a trip to New York for a superday with DCM. Again, I really felt the interview went very well. I did not miss a technical, and my personal information went over very well as I got along with every interviewer.

About a week later, I was told that while there was limited space with DCM, the FIG group had an opening and wanted to know if I'd be interested. Yes, I was interested. One more (highly technical) interview later, and I received yet another call.

The FIG group had other candidates in mind and I was late to the process for their group, would I be interested in an interview with LevFin? Yes, I am interested... I couldn't help but to laugh when I hung up the phone with the HR rep, whom I feel I know personally at this point.

Maybe I feel like I'm leaving a better impression than I really am? Maybe its because I'm a non-target who really needs to prove myself? Do I need new deodorant??? I mean, I have never heard of a bank stringing along a shitty candidate just because he's a nice guy.

The good news is, I have an offer (that I'm not to thrilled about) to fall back on, but that deadline is rapidly approaching. Nevertheless, what is going on here? Thanks ahead of time for any advice you might add
