At what level do you gain complete control of your time?
At what age or seniority did you find you gained complete control of your hours worked? No more responding to weekend emails immediately, putting off responses when convenient for you during the week, able to leave the office to go do an outside of work activity, spontaneously take time off for a trip, etc...
Retirement
On the equity side of the business, if you're an asset manager, you'll get control back when you run your own buildings. Reporting will be sporadically to the people above you in the organization but no one will be watching you daily (Depending on firm culture of course). Acquisitions will be different because it is deal related but always hunting. If you are away, you cant hunt. Deals can blow up your vacation. I've seen it happen tons of times, even at 'life style' shops because the senior person needs to be around to keep moving the process forward.
