A bit overwhelmed at first

Hey guys,

Started at a BB yesterday (IBD). Was looking through some of the company's resources for analysts and summer analyst and to be honest, was a bit overwhelmed. So much stuff on complex modeling and talking about knowing everything about them head down. Is it normal for me to feel a bit overwhelmed (training hasn't even started) or should I be doing some serious studying to catch up before we hit the desks.

Any similar sentiments?

Hey!! Take a deep breath -- you're an intern I'm guessing and you're there to learn. NO ONE expects you to know everything on the first day or even by the end of your summer. Just have a good attitude and be open to learning and you'll do great!

If you're an intern then nobody will expect you to know anything.  People might be annoyed that you take a while to get stuff done, or if there are errors, but they won't hold it against you because they know you're new and TBH it's the responsibility of the full time analysts to make sure work product that gets to more senior folks is good.  You should most definitely feel overwhelmed, and you probably will be all summer - overwhelmed with work, overwhelmed with the tediousness of checking for errors, overwhelmed with people asking you to do something and you not knowing how.  That's what an internship is TBH.  Yes, you should study before you hit the desk.  Yes, you should work your ass off.  Yes, you should be stressed that the work you're sending out or the emails you're sending out could have problems with them - use that to motivate you to double and triple check everything.  The best things you can do are absorb everything like a sponge, work your ass off, have a great attitude and make sure your work has no unforced errors.  You do that stuff and you'll be fine.

I'm an analyst and I don't even know what I'm doing. I'm theoretically taking notes on this call (going over a super complicated contract with outside counsel), and I legit have zero clue what is going on.
