Accepted Offer: Should I keep looking?
Two weeks ago I accepted and signed an offer letter. They said there would be two background checks. One "preliminary background check" to begin immediately, and one "thorough" background check to be completed one month before start.
I confirmed with one of my previous employers that the preliminary background check had begun because he said he was contacted by them.
I received two different start dates, about two weeks apart, so a week ago I sent an e-mail to the recruiter to clarify this. No response.
Should I keep looking? I signed the offer letter but not an employment agreement.
Recruiters and HR departments are, with few exceptions, unreliable idiots. If you've only had one email go unanswered then I wouldn't read too much into that. Just follow up again, and if you still don't hear anything try to escalate to the hiring manager.
I know that feeling of pen being to paper but still not feeling like you're in the seat yet. HighlyClevered is not wrong, you're going to find a lot of incompetent folks in the onboarding process. You have the job, and short of reneging on the offer (don't do that), then you're golden, just hang in there.
What kind of role is this for, and if it's an IB role is it with a BB/EB/MM shop or a smaller true boutique?
I would at least continue out any processes you are in now and see what happens; too many stories about the rug being pulled out from under candidates.
It's an investment banking first-year analyst position with a MM IB that is growing... probably near 100 bankers across the nation. There are over 30 people in the office I am joining
