Advice: Boutique LinkedIn Cold Message Internship

I found a boutique bank that I am interested in the exact industry group that I am hoping to land and in which I have relevant experience. I would like to cold-email them looking for fall/winter internship opportunities.

What would be the best way to do this - Should I message the MD or an associate on LinkedIn? Or should I use the info @firm email on the firm's website? Are firms mostly receptive to off-cycle internship requests?

My success with LinkedIn messaging has not been good for general networking purposes, but the MD is clearly active on LinkedIn (keeps looking at my profile - presumably because I looked at his).

My profile if it makes a difference: (intentionally vague because I have a somewhat unique background) Non-finance background in above mentioned industry High GPA (3.9+) in finance masters Internship at top-tier Asset Management firm with return offer but looking to lateral out

I got a Fall internship by emailing the firm within the "contact us" section of the site. They didn't have a careers page and the email went straight to the MD. He forwarded it to a VP who then contacted me. Turns out their intern had just left and it was perfect timing. I'm sure linkedin would be fine but using the "contact us" ensures that someone from the company will actually read your email.
