Alix Partners (Exit Opps, etc)

Hey Guys,

So recently, through a former boss getting me an inroad, I was fast tracked to a second round of Alix's restructuring summer analyst program in SF.

I was wondering if anyone could speak to exit opps- whether it be B school, PE (I've heard about exits strictly from restructuring), or standard management consulting exits

Thanks!

I'm restructuring at a BB (nyc). Unlike Alix and Alvarez my group usually gets clients post-turnaround, nevertheless we still work with both. I'd say between the two Alix will have a lot wider exit ops than Alvarez simply because Alvarez is insanely CPA-focused rather than being a more broad consultancy. I've never worked at either, so just relaying observations.

To my knowledge, the most common exit opp out of Alix is PE ops. Many people end up with ops placements at client firms. You can also make the switch into another restructuring advisory, though IB groups tend to prefer seeing some banking experience alongside the restructuring/distress work. Alix is a top choice in the turnaround space so I'd say your top MBA prospects don't look dim. Generally, however, most guys in my group like to take off for top law schools since bankruptcy law is such a hot and overpaid practice right now, and with restructuring experience you're already one foot in the door.

Best of luck on your placement.

this is great info, thanks!

I'm not sure if you could speculate on this, but do you think overall location would matter for a turnaround firm like Alix? (I can pick DC/SF/NYC, I just went with SF because of personal reasons)
