VP Level - when to follow up after final round
I did a final round recently. Last couple of months included half dozen interviews, model case, presentation to team on coverage areas, superday, dinner, etc. They had given good signal along the way, once mentioned front runner, etc.
Can I ask them when they expect to tell me back? We had gotten in detail about what I wanted to cover, my worries about joining, them selling the rosy picture but also the downside picture, really kind of ran everything down. It’s been a long process so I’m ready to wrap up either way and move on.
I think following up after a week and asking for guidance on timing is reasonable, especially given the amount of time it sounds like you have dedicated to the process already. What fund?
Oh wow so you’d wait a whole week.
It’s a JAMMBOG
How long's it been for you? In a similar situation.
Literally in the same situation wrapped up case and presentation April 17th , can’t get a reply
Bad news for you brother…
My general rule is to follow-up on the Tuesday following your interview if you haven’t heard anything back. Generally if they go radio silent on you for a week at this stage, it is a very bad sign.
Unfortunately while recruiting has picked up materially these past two months, firms are still reluctant to ultimately present an offer. I have some theories as to why, but it has been a frustrating time for candidates as they jump through numerous hurdles only to find out the firm “changed its mind and wants a VP instead of a Principal or a Principal instead of a VP.”
Radio silent probably the most inappropriate thing a place can do. As a candidate , a simple reply saying any of these reasons is fine and I wouldn’t hold hard feelings. But having to send 5+ follow ups is ridiculous
@compbanker - to the extent that you're able to, I'd be curious to hear your speculations on what's driving this behavior from firms
