Any other first years barely working?

AN1 at a sweaty boutique (as sweaty as pre-reform Moelis / Piper) and I've literally worked a combined 30 hours the past 2 weeks, with 25 of them being the previous week. I am probably putting out slightly higher quality work with fewer mistakes than other first years since I'm a lateral, but this still feels insane to me - some of my fellow analysts are staying up till 3AM every other day.

I'm honestly grateful (getting paid $100k base to play video games, go to the gym, and prep for buyside is pretty cool), but just wondering if anyone else's first month or so has been like this.

Yes there’s been several posts like this. I’m just relaxing and enjoying the free time. Not sure if doing anything productive is that worth it considering I’m going to have to learn everything anyway. I think this is normal for new analysts now since they don’t want to spend time to teach everyone yet when they are so busy. My guess.

If you are a lateral you should know better than to complain about not working lol.

Ultimately, it comes down to the lumpiness of work for deals. Let’s say the guy next to you is getting slammed this week, but there’s a pitch next week that you are going to get staffed on. Does it make sense to staff you on your neighbors deal for a week to create a few slides before removing you from the process for the future? Probably not. Also, sometimes doing so could frustrate clients who often want to have consistency with the team they are working with.

don’t worry new hires—I promise the banks at some point will juice you for all you are worth.
