Apartment Locations In Hong Kong (Part II) [Central vs. Kennedy Town]

Given that the original "where to live in HK" is almost ten years old, I was wondering if I could get more feedback on where to live in Hong Kong. My budget is around 15,000-18,000hkd and I'm working right in central think (think IFC)

I've been looking to Kennedy Town and I think that vibe is perfect for me but I'm don't know how far it is especially the late nights out in Central in the office/drinking as an analyst. Do you think living out in KT would be a mistake? If not are there other areas that a lot of the analysts live in? Another place I was considering was Tai Hang but not sure about that either. Any anecdotal stories/data would be appreciated.

Interned at a BB in HK before and lived in Sai Wan. Personally feel Kenndy Town or Tin Hau could be a better choice than Central or Admiralty.

  • Kennedy Town is still as crowded as a fish can, but it's definitely better than Central. 15,000-18,000 HKD budget could get you a roomy and comfy studio in Kenndy Town but not in Central.
  • Kenndy Town has more of "community life" which you couldn't get in the financial district. During less OT weekends, I feel that interacting with locals, shopping grocery and cooking local dishes makes me a human being again :)
  • There was not that much late night traffic in Hong Kong island after midnight. A cab ride from IFC to Kenndy Town would only take less than 10 mins. And you have the MTR running until 00:30 or 01:00 (if you're not work in IBD hours you probably don't need a taxi home).
  • Where most analysts live? Kennedy Town, Wanchai, Sai Ying Pun and sometimes Causeway Bay.
  • I feel Tai Hang may not be a good choice because you need to take a short walk to the MTR station and you don't want to be sweaty in the office Monday morning.
