Apply for SA 2020 before starting SA 2019?

Hello WSO,

I'm a freshman/sophomore at a target school working at a HF this summer. I want to know if I should start applying for IBD SA 2020. Morgan Stanley's and other firms' applications have already opened, but I am concerned about the IBD firm contacting my current/future employer (the HF) to verify employment and thus causing me to lose my 2019 offer from the HF should they think I'm already looking to move on. I just want to keep my summer 2020 options open. Should I wait to apply until I have already started this summer's work?

Thanks.

I am 100% positive that everyone else at your school with a sophomore internship is applying for SA 2020 positions already and have listed their incoming internship on their resume. I would not worry about it too much. It's perfectly within your right to apply to an internship the year after as long as you are not reneging on your current internship. You are not expected to make a life decision to stay at the firm just because it is your first internship.
