Are these people actually going to help me out?
So I've been reduced to cold-emailing random people at banks looking for a job sophomore summer (before junior year); I've hit up several MDs/exec. directors in a few divisions, offering to work unpaid because I want experience.
A few (8-10) have gotten back to me within a day with lukewarm to positive responses (ranging from "hiring's over but I'll see what I can do" to "I'll forward this to some of my people" to "send me your resume and we'll talk"). So I shot my resume over to those people...do they actually want to help me? And when should I email them again?
It's not a bad sign. Some might be willing to help you, and some won't. It's a numbers game.
dude worst case scenario you get 8-10 contacts out of it for next year. I'm sure they want to help you, its a question of how busy they are and their respective hiring processes given the current market.
