Argus Entry Level Application?
I am looking into applying for associate/analyst roles after college for jll/cbre/cwk and see on the requirements that Argus experience is preferred. I don't have any yet because isn't it about $1000 to pay for the course or software? Am a college student and don't want to pay that much if it's not super important to have on the resume. Any free online tutorials to learn about Argus? Can I put it on the resume if I become familiar with it? Don't know how important it is when applying for entry level roles in IS brokerage
You should call Argus directly and ask for the student pricing, not sure what it is today, but not too many years ago I think it was $495 and included the workbook, online videos, 6 mn of Argus AE, and the certification exam. Totally worth it, and if you pass the exam, you can put Argus Enterprise Certified on your resume. All, the big RE university programs do this for their students so you should do it to be on par with others applying.
Okay totally fair. At a disadvantage bc I'm a finance major bc RE isn't offered at my university. Will probably ask this as my Christmas present haha... thx for the feedback on the student discount will definitely get in contact with them
Yeah, here is the deal with Argus, it's actually not that hard to use, but until you are trained you will be staring at a screen blankly. If interviewing/applying, you have it it checks a box, you don't and it could be an easy reason to not selected to interview. It is what it is!
I will, say and it's been a few years since I did an argus training (I no longer use it day to day, or really ever at this stage of my career), and the first time I did it, I actually learned a lot of real estate terminology and deal making points, especially about leasing. You have to understand the "business" case of the lease/deal to model it, and they actually teach that as part of certification. Very valuable stuff and not the kind of material likely to find in a lot of college courses either.
The quote for the student package was around $600+ last year. Yes, I would highly recommend that you should get the certification especially when you don’t have the direct work experience in ARGUS. The certification will open many conversations in your job search.
Amazing, thank you!
I understand it's a lot and it depends. Had a few big real estate developers I met with coming out of school say to get it. Not to be rude, but the $1000 cost isn't a good reason not to have it. Find a way to pay for it - borrow and pay back family if possible, or see if any of your friends want to do it and pool (need probably 15 people to do this) but there are ways.
I don't think it will hinder your ability as much coming out of school, but definetly look into getting it once you land your first job if getting it now isn't an option.
Okay thanks, have the money for it but as a college student not amount I'd like to drop off the bat if I could just learn how to use it for free in a job. Am strongly considering already putting in money and already am for licenses (NY and DC).
if you can lie, say you used it in an internship.
solid, thank you
Hey, didn't actually see this was "you". I just answered the question.
Let me give you some more detail. I interviewed for Darcy Stacom's team at CBRE 4 years ago, it was a BOE on paper test. I think for some teams you won't be given an ARGUS test as an analyst, but if you "fudge" and say you have some exposure it can't hurt. I think with the bigger brokerages, they MAY test you, but that's a risk you'll have to take.
I have to be honest given your one job experience at EU it might be a tough sell. It MAY be better to be honest and say you can learn. ARGUS is one of those things that is easy to pick-up or learn in 2-3 weeks, and easy to forget if you don't use for 1-2 years.
Not sure I would really want to lie about this, BUT, if you do the student package, you can use it in some case study practice and/or along with coursework... then you can can say you are "experienced" from the academic side. Is this exactly what they are looking for? Not really, but at entry level, you can totally make yourself pass the "check mark" test and move along in the process. Having the actual certification is another easy way to get past the "experience" requirement with Argus.
That's a great idea by using it for case study to show experience/willingness to learn - thank you!!! Is Argus easy to pick up on?
Need additional insight on this... which course should I buy of Argus? I'm seeing software and enterprise and DCF. which package would you recommend as an aspiring IS analyst that's reasonably priced and enough to show that I've had some experience to slap on the resume? Anyone have any links to the student discount courses? Their website is confusing and looks like it's from the 2000s
