At this stage, how direct should I be?
I'm a junior majoring in Finance at a non-target school currently searching for an IB internship for the coming summer. I'm in the process of networking with the few alumni my school has in IB, as well as people who went to school in the same state as me. I realized I wanted to do Investment Banking pretty late in the game, so it seems the networking process needs to be a little more compressed in my case so that I don't miss out on the recruiting window for boutique banks (It looks like the BBs and EBs are pretty much out of the picture at this point.
My question is, when I'm able to meet in-person or talk on the phone with bankers, should I be more direct at this point and ask about internship opportunities at their firms at the end of the informational interview, or should I hold off until I've had more time talking with them? I realize I need to move my ass to get things lined up, but I don't want to jump the gun with my contacts I've made.
