Background Check - Pending Charges
So I've accepted an internship offer in S&T with a BB and I need to complete a background check. I have some pending charges for something I did a few months ago (after I'd gotten the offer). Don't want to go into too much detail but the situation I was in made it look like I was doing something a lot worse than I was and I ended up getting charged with a misdemeanor and a felony. These should eventually get dropped but theres no way it will happen before the background check (I haven't even had a preliminary hearing yet). Charges are not drug-related if that matters.
So my question is, will a bank rescind the offer for something that is pending?
Would not blame the bank if they did.
100%. You can put "but the situation I was in made it look like I was doing something a lot worse than I was" any which way you want. You were likely doing something you know you shouldn't have been and if there's an industry that will scratch you off for it, it'll be banking. Best of luck.
Alright thanks for the feedback. Anyone have any advice or perhaps a similar experience? I'd like to reiterate that the charges will in all likelihood be dropped but not in time for the background check.
Get a lawyer and try to get them expunged. Must be something fairly serious if its a felony.
Yeah I didn't do the felony though and it will probably be dropped at my preliminary hearing. I have a lawyer but there isn't much he can do right now because I haven't even had the preliminary hearing. I could be wrong but I don't think you can expunge things that you haven't been convicted of.
You're paying your attorney for a reason - ask him/her.
I have but I just wanted to get some thoughts from people familiar with the industry.
