Batting Lefty on Wall Street
Do banks drool over gays like they do minorities? If so, I might have to take one for the team.

esplain senor?
unlike minorities, gays aren't as actively organized politically. they don't have organizations like the rainbow coalition that come by and perform shake downs (i.e. extortion) on major corporations.
Well, let's not say banks "drool" over minorities or gays. Fact is less than 1% of wall street is even minority or gay.
HAHAHA. It would be absolutely hilarious if a bank hired you thinking you were gay and then you had to put on a show for two years. That's office comedy.
I swear I read some article which said Goldman was one of the most gay-friendly employers. But I just tried to find it to no avail, so that might be a false statement. Either way, I think gay and lesbians are gonna be the next wave of 'minority' groups that get the special treatment.
Not that this is new to anyone, but..
Admissions data recently obtained from the University of Michigan show that race and ethnicity play a huge role in determining who gets in.
In last year's entering class, a Michigan native with neither parent a U-M alum, a cumulative SAT of 1240 and a 3.2 high school grade-point average had a 9-out-of-10 chance to be admitted as an undergraduate to the University of Michigan -- if the applicant was black or Hispanic.
For whites or Asians, the chances were 1-in-10.

If you're going to look at opinions, then start with Justice O'Connors opinion issued after the Supreme Court's decision in 2003 on the precedent setting affirmative action cases of Gratz/Grutter v. Bollinger.
However one might feel about controversial issues such as diversity, empirical admissions data have always supported that diversity is immensely important to Higher Ed and Higher Ed in turn has a significant impact on public interest, our society at large and overall well being as a competitive nation. Ergo... Access to Education = better labor productivity = wealth of a nation. (Adam Smith)
Any thoughts out there?
I like working with women...
MetalJack... I just sent you via PM the article you are referring to.
A british gay lobby group called Stonewall did a survey or index on the UK best gay employers where GS came in 7th.

that look like Clive Owen :-)
As for gays in the bullpen, I don't really care as long as they're not flamers.
If they're flamers or blatantly homosexual, I don't think they'd last too long in this type of environment.
all evidence to the contrary given previous postings on forum... what with all the talk of suits/watches I think the environment is quite fitting!
I'm assuming that's a joke.
It's entirely within the realm of batting righty for a man to be concerned with how he looks and dresses. Suits are important, and shoes are arguably more important. Watches ought to be tasteful, whether expensive or not.
Joke... sarcasm...
Yes yes yes, nothin' wrong with the metrosexual man :-)
In small/large part, men/women wouldn't be attracted to IB and tolerate the "Indentured Servitude" (borrowing the expression from a fellow monkey) were it not for the $$$ and the stuff that $$$ can buy such as cars, suits, watches, shoes etc. All good, all good.
Metrosexual????
No.
I don't wear square-toed shoes, black suits, sunglasses indoors, put a ton of chemicals in my hair....you get the picture. But I DO have a sense of how to dress well--at least when it comes to business attire. Weekend nights are another story.
some bbs have events targetted at glbt's where representatives from the firm have a meet and greet sort of thing - they're not widely publicized.

If you're so challenged I'm sure a flaming sales boy at Barney's or Jeffrey's would love to be your personal fashion stylist.
Ja ja ja!!!
