Best networking question ever?
Answering networking calls in your professional experience, was there ever a question that stood out? Something unique that a prospective IBer asked you that sparked a conversation, or a question you just simply liked and thought was insightful.
This question is also posed to students. As a student, is there anything you ever asked that sparked an interesting conversation?
idk if this is good for networking but these are good ways to get to know someone
just for fun
LOL.
'#4. Have you ever done LSD? If so, how do you think it has played a role in your career (if any) and how did you leverage that experience for breaking into IB?
Literally first thing I thought of for #3 lol I was wondering what kinda guys this dude was hanging out with at first where that's a "get to know someone" type question
Ain’t nothing wrong with a little altered state of consciousness
Jesus was black though
Which school is better for getting into IB, Wesleyan or Brown? That will obviously determine the choice between marrying Lael or Janet, so our kids can get legacied in
#7. Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day! Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day!
“what do the exits look like?”
This isnt an unusual question to ask if phrased better.
Who do you fuck more with? Your MD or your significant other?
If talking to an alum, I always ask if there were opportunities on campus that they missed out on and things they wish they tried while still a student, and then i turn it into asking advice for my remaining time on campus. Without fail they love it
For restructuring, you can ask a stand out question in every informational interview if the bankruptcy is done/near completion. When that is the case, the full list of bankers who worked on the deal is public along with the vague work description and hours that they put in each day. If they were working absurd hours at one point in the deal process, go back and look at the court hearing or documents that were filed in the days after that to see what they worked on exactly, then ask their reasoning for going with that solution. It does take a bit of research, but it makes you sound like you know your shit. BUT you also gotta ask them what they do in their free time or something so you don't come off as a complete finance boner lol. Always about balance.
“Hey man, so I saw you worked 17 hours on Monday, April 6th and then 18 hours that next Tuesday. Looks like you were running x analysis for your VP, whose name I believe is y. Why did you guys decide to go with that direction on the analysis vs. this other one?”
Foolproof.
Haha touché. A little more subtly than that
For college aged undergrads to ask professionals -- what steps would you take right now if you were me to put myself in the best position moving forward
So... see a lot of asses getting fucked around here but no lub, is that why all analysts have standing desks?
