Hi I wanted to ask you about which banks emerged as the biggest winners of the last 2 3 yrs? downturn + what-looks-like a recovery period?
And which major companies / industries have according to you had a great credit crunch??
PS: Don't think that GS is the obvious answer because it was not far behind John Mack's MS at some point and was termed as 'human' by the WSJ! :p

JPMorgan. Jamie stepped up and showed why he is a bad ass banker. GS might not be an obvious answer, but the weathered things better than almost everyone. They are in a strong position going forward.

Wells Fargo. Prior to 2008, WF and BB never appeared in the same sentence. Now it seems as if they are mentioned every time one speaks of the other large banks: BAC, C & JPM. Still FAR behind GS and MS tho.
Using that logic, BoA probably also, since they weren't a BB either and now they have Merrill Lynch and great dealflow.

MS is obviously a loser, back in the day it was just GS and MS and since then MS has lost a lot of top traders and talent as well as profit. They are pretty much a middle BB and in terms of their S&T and AM, they suckass and it is incomparable to GS anymore. IBD is still okay.
I would agree that BoA is a loser because those retards in Charlotte had the nerve to buy a great BB giant like Merrill Lynch, forever tainting legacy and causing a lot of talent to leave.
Anyways, biggest winner is JPM. Biggest loser is UBS.

Agreed. JPM and WF did really well in terms of growing IBD and keeping a strong balance sheet. Biggest loser is definitely RBS or some foreign bank in Iceland.
