Our intern gets a bloomberg trial and has plenty of opportunity to learn how to use it

I'd say a lot of it depends on the shop and the department the intern is in. We currently have an open terminal, which means that anyone can use it for most functions outside of trading, but it is impossible to remote into that PC. Last summer we tried to make the interns comfortable with some of the most popular functions, and using the helpdesk for anything that they didn't know. The year before we didn't have an open terminal, so the intern only got Factset. She already knew how to use one though.

Honestly, I'd say using the helpdesk was the most valuable lesson. I've had either my own terminal or access to a shared one for four years, and there is still a lot of functionality I'm unfamiliar with.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
